Conor and Gabe are working together to edit, rewrite, and rerecord some of Conor's recent material for a concept album. We're thinking science fiction and bare acoustic arrangements.

==Improbable Songs==

# Captain Charles Fort and Janus are aboard the photon zeppelin. Capt. Fort completes their post-launch checklist and prepares for cryosleep.
# The cryogenic musings of Capt. Fort en-route to the Super-Sargasso Star System
# Ada, Capt. Fort's wife, creates a holo-missive (h-mail) for her husband, but then deletes it as it will (theoretically) reach her husband long after she has died. She wonders if the dead can communicate.
# Janus, the ship's sentient computer system unexpectedly reaches enlightenment during a routine diagnostic becoming the first non-biological life form to do so and jeopardizing the mission.
# Capt. Charles Fort wakes from cryosleep to find himself sharing the photon zeppelin with a curious and incomprehensible luminescent octopus. Janus, the ship's sentient navigation system is meditating. Improbably, Capt. Fort has arrived at the Super-Sargasso Star System.
# Capt. Fort attempts to study the star system as the octopus attempts to study Fort. Neither make any progress. The differences in their perception of time are irreconcilable.
# Ada's deleted message reaches Fort in the Super-Sargasso Star System. Deleted messages are the only ones which reach the system. Fort longs to be with his wife again. In an attempt to be helpful, the octopus transports Fort to an alternate (previous?/lost?) reality. Fort sing the song a married woman.
# The story ends, somehow.

Bits of back story:
* Capt. Fort and Janus are part of the Canadian space program. Canada has laid claim to much of the land formally known as the United States, Russia and parts of China. World peace is achieved. Capt. Fort is prone to brief but intense feelings of nationalism.
* The photon zeppelin is an unlikely space craft. It carries no fuel or thrusters. It is comprised of several enormous sails that are transparent to different frequencies of light. Janus the navigational computer arranges these sails in space to harness radiation from various star sources (with various spectral outputs) to create thrust and direction. It's a very complicated affair.
* The super Sargasso star system is the source of all the dark matter and dark energy in the universe. it is where all things lost go. Ironically, Capt. Fort is only able to find the system by first becoming lost.
* Ada, we need to know much more about her.

This is a song Becky had the idea for, and we've worked together to write it. This is the working title, but I think it'd make sense to have the name of the company in question be the title of the song. Apparently there are several machine shops and glue companies that have actually used variations on this phrase as a slogan. One was a machine shop in NYC between 1905 and 1933 named "Sanford and Son" which we pretty much couldn't use because of the TV of the same name.

On this initial demo, I messed up and sang "on me" at the very end, where I meant to sing "my dear", which I like better there.

I like this song, but the tone is maybe a little too all over the place. Sometimes it wants to be fun and sometimes it wants to be genuine. I was fighting off a much jazzier version, trying to get a country feel instead, and they sort of canceled each other out somehow or something. I think it could work nice and fast. I set out to write twelve country songs this year. A few of these aren't country to the core; some are a little jazzy or showtunesy. Some are just plain old songs without much stylistic distinction that I figured could be played with a country arrangement. *I use capital letters for Major chords and Augmented chords.
*I use lower case letters for minor and diminished chords.
*I use 0 for diminished and % for half-diminished chords.
*I use + for augmented chords.
*I use a slash when a note other than the root of the chord is at the bottom, so C/G is C major with a G in the bass.
*I use simply 7 for minor sevenths and M7 for major sevenths.
*Where there's a note in the chord that I don't know how to explain in the name, I'll often put in an "add". For an F major triad with a G in it, I might write "Fadd9". I don't want to write F9 because I think a ninth chord has a minor seventh in it by default.
