i was on an almost empty flight from las vegas to indianapolis this morning with my laptop and garageband. found some odd chords and a melody, wrote some lyrics, did the structure very fast because the battery was dying, and now several hours later tidied up the lyrics and recorded vocals.<br>

not sure what i think of this. the lyrics are because i was reading the penguin atlas of ancient civilizations and thought it might be nice to write a song with "ancient history" in it, but then i couldn't really get anywhere with it lyrically. the verse is pretty over the top, which i think is kind of fun, but the chorus is just the same set of chords i use for every chorus. writer's block is such a pain!!!!!!!!! 		+	Man, new Sara song! Sweet. OK, so even if you're suffering from writer's block, this is still rad. First off, you've got that pre-last-chorus breakdown chorus, which never hurts. And it might not be the most distinguished chorus you've written, but it's still catchy and totally gets the job done. Also, the sounds are pretty neat! I dig the little melody synth and especially that organ sound. The various loops are pretty cool. I like the transition before the first chorus; it's nice to have some space there to anticipate it. I've been writing all these songs that just jump breathlessly into the chorus from the verses, and so it's nice to have to wait for it. I like the non-transition between the chorus and verse 2. If I were recording this, I'd have put some kind of slidey sound effect in there, like, "Bwoooooo." Your backing vocals are, as usual, killer, especially all the spread out stuff over that last chorus section. Ah, see, this is really growing on me the more I listen to it. I think The Parents could do a pretty killer version of this. Just put someone on bongos/tambourine. One thing to watch out for is on the line "I'm so surprised you'd say goodbye," on that "goodbye" (I think), you've got a borrowed chord there, sounds like a major where you'd ordinarily have a minor or something, and you need to tweak the melody note on "bye" to make it fit with that chord.
