I'm quite pleased with the way this tuned out. I wrote the chords and melody a while ago, but didn't take the time to set any words to them until tonight. The Cm, F, C part came first, and for some reason the sound of those chords in sequence really struck me. It sounded like a cadence, but not really, quite unusual, it took me a long time to figure out what could come next. I basically did the same thing but up a fifth for the second line and then just dinked around with some weird cadence things to get the last two lines. I wanted the middle bit to be full of very simple and familiar sounding chords to add a bit of contrast. the words were originally going to be about watching some one depart or leave for someplace, but then that turned into watching someone fall asleep on you. Once I hit upon that I finished up the words in a couple hours. I'd like to improve some of the lines. "the sweetest thing" could be much better. "sweetest" is sort of lame, "thing" is really lame and "sweetest thing" reminds me of that u2 song. actually now that i think about it, this song kind of reminds me of that aerosmith song... Songwriter Notes
