this must have been one of the first few songs i wrote. i wrote the chord progression in my kitchen after i bought my telecaster, my first electric. i was playing it unplugged since i was still saving up for an amp. i thought this was a good song at the time, looking back at it now it seems pretty dull and childish.

i think the lyrics were inspired by mark strand's poem "The man in the Tree". I was reading his selected works at the time.

Lyrics

come be with me in this tree
and we will lay out in its branches
and i will wash you clean
where no one will watch us

come be with me in this tree
high up where no one will follow
we can holler at the sea
make faces at the ground below us

high above the painted lines
on cold concrete
i will hold you in my arms
to be with me
