song for the seasons of our life

the chlorophyl does as it will and to my delight i marry you in the spring time of our life as the days grow long, our roots grow strong join hands my friend and i'll work with you in the summer time of our life and then it comes to this, for we're deciduous come near my dear i'll care for you in the autumn time of our life and then the bitter cold as we grow old close your eyes sleep tight and i'll lay with you in the winter time

Comments
this song is just lovely. one of my favorites all year, and that's saying something. it makes me cry. i'd love to hear a more flushed out version of this some day. the lyrics are really excellent, especially subtleties like how, "of our life" is left off the last stanza. the use of "chlorophl" and "deciduous" is almost like a branding, something only you would do, i think, but that's what makes them so marvelous. this song is a keeper, it'd be at home in one of those big anthology books of folk music.
