The Dust Storm

Lyrics

we hid under our bed and said let's not be afraid
the storm is dust and wind and when it's gone we will remain

once the river thundered down because the sky was full of sea
and all around then the mountains cut the earth like sharp new teeth

the wind blew winter through the peaks not cruel nor comforting
the sun was strong and close and yes the chill was deafening
the wind blew winter through the peaks not cruel nor comforting
the river fell like rain and when it's gone we will remain

now the rivers blow with dust high above their broken beds
the mountains fold under the sky make their hard way down to the sea

and miles above that sea below the old waterline
among the ghosts of mountaintops the salt bakes until it's dry

their dust blows through the stars it's neither cruel nor comforting
the sun comes sinking closer the light will be deafening
the dust blows through the stars neither cruel nor comforting
the rivers drown in dust and when it's gone we will remain

once the storm raged round a house far above the salty sea
two helpless souls two hands to hold to tell an old story

and when we're old and lonely stars turn to dust above our bed
i will fold myself here in your arms and rest my dry old head
