we should self unite

Lyrics

should we allow
our love to be pulled down
or gather in a bulb
and slowly grow more round
if our worries were to grow
and exceed a certain size
should we self detach
no, we should self unite

e to the i phi
cosin plus i sin
sway with me tonight
i'm yours of course
you're mine

should we align or
perhaps fall out of phase
should we multiply
or walk our separate ways
when our hearts begin to grow
and exceed a certain size
should we self detach
no, we should self unite

e to the i phi
cosin plus i sin
sway with me tonight
i'm yours of course
you're mine

Don't sell yourselves short on this one. I like the relatively quick waltz feel and the metronome, I really like the twittering synth in the background. I think the verse lyrics are sweet and simple which suits the mood of the melody well, though I'll need some graphical illustrations to appreciate the first half of the chorus. I think you guys are getting really good at singing together, too.

This sounds a little like a Disney song from the 60s. I mean that as one of the higher compliments of which I'm capable. For some reason, I can see a pair of well-animated animals walking through some sort of painted background singing this to each other. Since it's you two, I think it's probably giraffes. Oh, oh, and they're walking through the zoo at night and the other animals are looking on knowingly.

Part of me wonders what would happen if you took out that one measure between the verses and the choruses, and instead just went straight into the chorus. I feel like it could have a good waltzy, swing-the girl-out wide kind of centrifugal force momentum if you did it that way.

I like the way the last line of the chorus is stretched out over twice as many measures as you'd expect, and I like the little ascending piano line underneath that. It's a nice hook.
