Do you have girl somewhere?
Do You Have A Girl Somewhere? - MP3
Lyrics
do you have a girl somewhere? how do you tell her you love her? do you notice when she changes her hair? do you take pictures of her? do you smile every once in a while in spite of yourself at the thought of the face that she makes when she's tasting something new? does she know that you do? do you have a girl somewhere? does she know that she has you? do you have a girl around? how long has it been since she's seen you? when's the last time you took her out for a night on the town she could brag about? do you write her letters when you're out on the road do you phone her up to let her know you're coming home? are you getting through? why do sigh and whisper as if you're afraid you might give it away? when you kiss her goodnight can she tell you've been waiting all day was she waiting, too? do you have a girl somewhere? don't you think that she's awfully swell? can she tell? does she know that she has you?
Music
I can't remember what key this song is in, I'll look it up.
Chords
It has many chords, I'll look those up, too.
Structure
I wanted to just have a classic A B A structure, but the song got all complicated on me:
A A B C A A B D B C'
A = verse
B = chorus part 1
C = chorus part 2 (punchline?)
D = instrumental bridge
Author's Notes
This was my earliest attempt at a jazzy number. The melody is a little too complicated, but I was trying to take advantage of all the weird notes in these crazy jazz chords.
Arranging is the bane of my existence. I like the bass part here, and the cheap keyboard solo on the bridge. I am not too keen on the drums, as I'm the furthest thing from a jazz drummer you could find. I like the part in the abstract, but it's a little too "rock" for the song, ultimately.
