lyrics
pressed between the pages of the book we found by the train tracks smudged with soot and folded into thirds the postage had been cancelled so we guessed the envelope made it then we found the pictures of the birds said one "the swiss are private men of means" said one "a ghost can never lose her way" "each uniform the pride of brown and beige" "each sings a song both beautiful and brave" "ferris wheel in ninety-three" was printed carefully under a diagram we couldn't understand the final card was torn but there was no mistaking the message dictated to a tightly-looping hand: "i shouldn't let you go but how else is the world to change? earth spins, see? earth spins, see? i wonder at the places you left prints your steady hands no less for being small send hope my love and chance the rest she craves my heart became a bird and flew away"

i'm doing this new thing where i'm recording super short demos into my tiny USB MP3 player. i may re-record and expand this, but for the moment, the sound of this version seems appropriate.
the song is my tribute to sj, dk, ec, lh, and jj. especially ec, since i wrote it with her departure in mind.
i seem to only be able to write four-line songs lately. i am not sure that's awesome.
i love the passerines. thank you, ladies and gentleman.
Added some more lyrics up there in anticipation of expanding this tune to full length some day soon. Gabemcelwain 18:20, 13 June 2008 (PDT)
