This is a song by my friend Becky Stark. I love this song so I made a lo-rent dance version in tribute. I'm sorry if I've ruined it for everyone forever.

The Kids (Gabe Version) - MP3

An awesome picture of Becky I found on the internet!

Lyrics

the kids don't care what they're doing
just want to stay out all night long
tuning in to the information radio station
in the land of the midnight sun

the kids don't care where they're going
they just want to get there before it's gone
go out to the window look at the sky
they hit the rails and they start to run

oh yeah okay
do you have any other bright ideas?
you said that you would do anything you could to get me out of here
and i would love
yeah i would love to cut you down but you're a thing of beauty
you're a thing of beauty

the kids don't care if they're finished
there's always something that don't get done
so fucking smart they don't consider it art
hit the rails and they start to run

when you meet
when you meet
just remember there will always be a first time for these things
and i would love
i would i would love to cut you down
but you're a thing of beauty

and i would love
i would i would love to cut you down
but you're a thing of beauty
and i would love

i would i would love to cut you down
but you're a thing of beauty
you're a thing of beauty

the ropes the rings
scatter all the little conversation

Music

Chords

Near as I could figure:

verse:
D Dsus2

prechorus:
A G D G

chorus:
e f# G
D G
e f# G
D G
A G E G
bridge:
G D G D G
A

e G x 6
A G e G

outro:
D

I went back and forth several times on whether the E chords should be major or minor. I think they can kind of work either way, and I actually like the sound of the major chord there, but it sounded a little funny in the techno genre, and I just left out the third in my version to avoid any confusion.

Author's Notes

I don't know when Becky wrote this song, but I know she recorded a demo of it for the set of stuff she did with Loren in the winter a couple years ago. This one didn't make the final cut, but somehow I got ahold of it. Maybe Becky actually gave it to me, but maybe I just hacked Loren's website. I can't remember. Anyway, it's awesome. I don't have the vocal presence to carry it the way she does, so I tried to make up for it with beats. Sigh. I think what this song really needs is a live band power pop adaptation that tweaks to structure to include the "yeah! ok!" hook several times. I'll see if I can't do that one of these days. Thanks, Becky, for writing an awesome song. Sorry if I made a joke of it. I meant well!
