Don't Say You're Sorry (Practice)- MP3

Becky and I think our band will be called Kitchen Table, Illinois. Here is one of the more recent songs we've been working on!

Lyrics

what did i tell you?
what did i say?
didn't we have this conversation yesterday?

tears wellin' up inside those puppy dog eyes
i can see 'em comin'
you say that i deserve to hear the truth
you keep trottin' it out, it keeps gettin' longer in the tooth

i don't know who you think you're foolin', dear
but you ain't foolin' me
you can cry those crocodile tears
and beg on bended knee
i been forgivin' and forgivin' you until my heart was sore
don't say you're sorry, i don't buy it anymore

what did i tell you?
when will you learn?
i let you have your say now you give me a turn

i think i've seen this same routine so many times
i could recite it
i don't understand how it keeps getting worse
given all the opportunities that you've had to rehearse

(cool solo should go here)

least you could do's make an excuse that holds a
thimbleful of water
the devil might have whispered in your ear
but he didn't twist your arm or unhook anyone's brassiere

Notes

So this is my second country song for the year. It's been especially fun to have worked on it with Becky! Clearly, the harmonies she wrote totally make it. It's nice to be singing regularly again, too, which I hadn't been doing until we started getting together. I really feel like country music has always been the genre for me but I didn't realize it until a few months ago. We're having a ball and are always working on new tunes. More to come! wow. this one is killer. more later. Conorl 05:27, 9 March 2009 (PDT)
omg. this song is so freaking sweet. i love how none of the song sections start on A except for the chorus. starting the verse on the E is brilliant, and the pre-chorus sounds like it might be the chorus, but then, its not! flawless... and i think you can do something with the solo section... instead of repeating the verse progression what if you modulate quickly, it'll be really really quick, but just enough time for the song to freshen up a little. almost like a super short bridge. i hear from the A quickly chromatically down to Gflat major. A, Aflat, G, Gflat: ba ba ba ba. And then Gflat major to Cflat major to Emajor to E7 or maybe something racier, and then into the D when the vocal come in. I've got to record a cover of this. its so sweet. i love it. Conorl 12:26, 9 March 2009 (PDT)
