gift registry

Lyrics

what's all this hootenanny
all the books from the library
all the dishes we've got to clean

in this apartment that's pretty small
but just right for the two of us
which we really like because

we use what we have
and we have what we need
and we need to stay light so we can move

please see our gift registry
most of it is ethereal
not a lot of material

we use what we have
and we have what we need
and we need to stay spry so we can pounce, well there's one thing...

you'll notice we're pretty low-fi
and maybe you hear some noise
that's not an aesthetic choice

it's related to our technology
not exactly the cutting edge
more like the other edge

we use what we have
and we have what we need
but it sure would be nice to hear some high frequencies

we use what we have
and we have what we need
and we need no moss so we can roll, rock and roll...

This is really great, you two! I love all the layering, how each of you does two different octaves. It sounds different from everything else you've done and gives this tune its own special texture. Lots of good lyrics here, I'm partial to the "ethereal/materal" rhyme, "spry" and "pounce" are well-played, also. Finally, kazoos are always welcome. Excellent! Just had this idea that the bridge, or second verse, the part after, "well there's one thing" where you talk about lo-fi sounds might be kind of awesome if it was spoken rather than sung (maybe just one or two of the vocal layers?), or if the arrangement changed up there somehow.

I also had this vision of the video for this where during that part, DK puts on some headphones, presumably to listen to the playback of your latest recording. At first hopeful, she quickly wrinkles up her nose, shakes her head, and gives a big thumbs down to someone offscreen. We pan over to Conor, who gives her the shoulder shug/hands in the air "what do you want from me?" gesture. Hilarious? Gabemcelwain 13:06, 11 June 2008 (PDT)

These are killer ideas!! I was thinking it could use some oooohs earlier in the song for the chorus with no synth. Check out the video at: http://deirdreandconor.wordpress.com/ Conorl 13:14, 11 June 2008 (PDT)

Hot damn! Fantastic. The guitar sound is sublime. The layering and instrumentation. I love it. So superbly lo-fi and awesome. Yeah. Robertvoyer 18:45, 14 June 2008 (PDT)
