I Only Had Eyes For You (Crappy Demo) - MP3

Lyrics

today it's ten
lonely weeks and change
since i watched that
taxi have its way
with you

remember when
it wrestled you inside
and punched me in the
face i waved goodbye

CHORUS:
i watched you disappear as if
my eyes were going bad
i gave that last look everything i had
what can i do
i only had eyes for you

wish i could say
i held my head up high
and took it like a
man but i can't lie
it did-

n't go that way
i cried my sockets raw
you were the last
sight i ever saw

i watched you disappear as if
my eyes were going bad
i gave that last look everything i had
what can i do
i only had eyes for you

Music

Chords

verse: B/F# G+ c#/G# E/G#

chorus: c# E F# c#, B F# c# E

Notes

I wrote this really quickly tonight based off the first line of another song I was trying to write, and it went places I didn't expect and I think I like it. There are rhymes but they don't work like rhymes very much except in the chorus. It needs a little something for length, maybe a solo and then a third chorus? Work in progress, can't wait to get Becky's help with this one. Gabemcelwain 20:44, 16 April 2009 (PDT)

wow!!!! this song is wonderful. the verse progression isn't one i would expect to hear in a fast pop song, and that works very nicely. mopey subject matter set to a fast pop beat is the best. i really like how the chorus and the verse roll into each other seamlessly, the chorus just sneaks up and clobbers you and then you are right back into the verse. add more choruses! your voice sounds really nice up high like this, but i have to really try hard to hear some of the words, mainly in verses, due to the fuzziness of the recording.Sara 10:39, 20 April 2009 (PDT)

thanks sara! i, too, enjoy the upbeat sad song. these days i fear doing sad songs slowly would "earnest" people to death. i decided to write a song in B, since most of the songs Becky and I play are in one of a limited number of keys and I wanted to branch out. hence the higher register. yeah, the recording is utter junk, made on my little usb mp3 player. that microphone is so small it can't be seen by the naked eye. next time becky and i get together we should be able to make a decent recording with harmonies!
