Please Stay

inescapable!

Lyrics

the flowers pushing through the grass
get flattened by the feet that pass
icicle lit by the sun
by the same sun is undone
the melodies you've yet to sing
get washed away by lesser things
the tender arms around you wrapped
could hold you tight or hold you back
so although it hurts me so
to think that someday you could go
i could never simply say
please stay

there's no other place i know
no person who appeals so
you promise like a flower seed
remind me of what i could need
your words rain down a soft refrain
but fall against my window pane
you're brighter than the burning sun
you melt my heart away it runs
your arms could briefly trap me here
but conquering is out my dear
and so from me you'll never hear
please stay

you know when spring is in the air
winter is already there
the season gone will come again
the world will turn around again
but i grow tired of wondering when
divining how we'll feel by then
carve our names into a tree
they get cut down so easily
you know it might not be so bad
to give up what you never had
and never be the one to say
please stay

Author's Notes

this is the result of an idea my bandmate had that we should write a go away please stay song separately and then try to piece them together. this is just my half. i think the words are a little unwieldy and reflect that i've been reading a lot of young adult fiction. also the middle section is sort of weird, and the vocals over it are even weirder/stupid words. plus the last verse rips off starlister.

i'm thinking of adding oohs over the verses, or maybe slower words instead of oohs. i want to add more instruments but i kind of want this to be a rock song. rock is hard. haha! urg. i also was up til 3AM writing this.

Sara 11:30, 16 December 2006 (PST): i scrapped the middle section and wrote a shorter, vocal-free bridge that just basically gives you a break from the verses. i also reworked it for guitar so it is (theoretically) less boring. i have not recorded the new version yet.

Sara 10:45, 18 December 2006 (PST): new version is online now. i recorded this after the company holiday party. will probably redo it again at some point with sober guitars. merry christmas!
