Author's Notes
In a way, this is a throw-away pop song. In another way, it's more than that. I got the idea to write a song using the metaphor of the sea turtle when I was on the Green Line, just north of the Adams and Wabash stop, as I recall.
This song was largely inspired by Chris Barron's I Love You, I Love You, Goodbye
I went home and wrote all the lyrics the next night. The night after that I wrote the music and recorded the demo. This is the fastest I have ever written a song, and for that reason, I like it more than most songs I've done lately, that I labor over for months, wringing all the life out of them in the process.
Stylistically, this was my first shot at a Bicycle Day-esque guitar solo. Some have remarked that this rockin' style does not necessarily fit the subject matter. I concur, but I find that to be a strength rather than a weakness in this case.
