Sea Turtle - MP3

Lyrics

sea turtle with the softest shell
handsomest face the hardest sell
well they should name a color after you
sea turtle with the wettest tears
saltiest sweet the keenest ears well
they should dedicate a poem to

sea turtle brave
sea turtle bold
sea turtle ship wreck pirate gold
sea turtle swim and sea turtle fight and
sea turtle go to sleep at night

sea turtle stained glass memory
the sunlight on anemone well
they should fly the flag of your hometown
sea turtle tender heart and hand
builds her nest upon the sand
well they should sculpt your portrait in the round

sea turtle ship
sea turtle shape
sea turtle makes her great escape
sea turtle dive and sea turtle try and
sea turtle i love you goodbye

goodbye

Author's Notes

In a way, this is a throw-away pop song. In another way, it's more than that. I got the idea to write a song using the metaphor of the sea turtle when I was on the Green Line, just north of the Adams and Wabash stop, as I recall.

This song was largely inspired by Chris Barron's I Love You, I Love You, Goodbye

I went home and wrote all the lyrics the next night. The night after that I wrote the music and recorded the demo. This is the fastest I have ever written a song, and for that reason, I like it more than most songs I've done lately, that I labor over for months, wringing all the life out of them in the process.

Stylistically, this was my first shot at a Bicycle Day-esque guitar solo. Some have remarked that this rockin' style does not necessarily fit the subject matter. I concur, but I find that to be a strength rather than a weakness in this case.
