Stubbornness of an honest man
Lyrics
oh i would have had a peaceful wedding day if it were not the federal penitentiary which let loose a killer who had vowed to shoot my bridegroom jesus tells us we should give up violence but he never fell in love with my husband oh god how can help but stand by him in my defense i had choose between god's perfect love and the stubbornness of an honest man i drew a colt on our pursuer and blew a hole through his posterior oh god what else could i have really done but gun him down muck with love you get gunned down

Songwriter Notes
a murder ballad! I wrote the verse melody and chords on January 24th before going out to the local bar with deirdre. i didn't really do any other work on it until today. i decided that it should have a bridge so i quickly tried to write something that didn't sound too stupid. i wanted it to modulate to G so that it would resolve to the tonic. modulation sort of confuses me, so i decided to keep it simple and just kind of go around the circle of fifths until i got to G. for the words i kept hearing things like "in my defense". after a couple of false starts i decided that i wanted to write a companion song to the song at the beginning of high-noon, and that i would write it from Amy Kane's perspective. Deirdre and i had a few conversations about why Amy stays with Will when he faces Frank Miller in the square. I had a few hair-brain ideas, but Deirdre said it was for love, so i finally ended up going with that idea. I'm not sure how successful some of these lines and rhymes are. I can't decided if they're playful or desperate. also, the drum beat should be much much cooler. the high-noon intro has such a cool drum beat. i tried to make something like that, but ended up getting lazy and throwing in a pretty simple beat.
