The End (first demo) - MP3

Lyrics

when stryker st. ryker was knighted he told all his friends
then he called all the strykettes together, kissed each on the head
and he said, "thank you, now go find yourselves some men who remember your names."
then he faked his own overdose suicide and quit wearing red

slugger and petal alexis wed princess to prince
they both grew (1)out their hair and (2)two pair of metropolis twins
the girls wore green like their mother and the boys wore orange like pumpkins
they lived happily ever after, no one's heard from them since

hunter magnificent thique disappeared in the night
but he left his blue pistol
dr. throbbon n burnnin returned to the arms of his wife
on their world of blue crystal
chiampe la rue, davy crocket of rock and roll
took to drink and got pissed, he'll be fine
if you see him, say, "hi."

what became of the boy in the silver wig, nobody knows
i've heard people say they watched him melt himself down in his clothes
children who go to museums see him waiting his turn for a plaque
some say robots can love and he found love and as that story goes
he ain't coming back

Songwriter's notes

I started this song on the piano in Bond Chapel, or at least wrote the majority of it there, back in 2004 or so. I had the first two verses basically done for years, and knew I wanted to do a line for each bass player in the bridge, but couldn't finish the darn thing. At some point a few months ago, I realized I wanted to return to the song and slaved at it for a while, finally getting some bits that felt right.

Recordingwise, I struggled with each instrument on this (especially the vocals--out of my range in both directions), then wrestled desperately with the mix for ages, and finally gave up on all fronts to get it out the door. I also tried to play a suitably earnest/ridiculous solo over the outro, as it clearly demands, but just don't have the chops. I've recruited Rocco La Rocco to write one, though, so if we get to record it, I'll put it up here.

If there were ever a complete second set of P1xel material (with Swung From A Velvet Rope, Retro Hetero, The Queen of Spades, Nostalgiac, Art Attack, Dinosaur In Drag, The March of the Heavy Pets), this would be the epilogue to it, the "played over the end credits" kind of thing.

Thanks to the kids who were in this band with me (though I don't think any of them read this wiki). We did some fun stuff together.
