where are my boys

Lyrics

where are my boys
where are those ugly mutts i found
my dogs my pups my hounds
oh they've all grown old
and been put down

where are my boys
where can those homely boys be found
my lads my chaps my pals
oh the fell in love
they all moved out

where is my wife
where is the love of my life my spouse my bride
oh she's right with me
she's at my side
oh she's right with me
she's at my side

Songwriter Notes

sort of a silly song. i'm not that happy with this mix. the vocals are too loud and i'm not sure what to do with the guitars. i think the chords and the melody are solid, but the arrangement isn't all that great, and the words are sort of so-so. instead of writing a proper bridge i just did radio type ear candy. i hate it when bands do that, its such lazy songwriting. the guitar is actually my acoustic banging around on power chords and then i put a ton of distortion on it in the computer. that could be why i'm not that into the sounds.

Man, a lot to say about this one. Let's see: I love the sound of it, mostly because I never hear you use effects very much, so this latest set of stuff with samples and craziness and distortion is really jarring, in a good way. It's groovy, though I am not sure this sound is right for this song. It works, though. The arrangement is pretty awesome, and though I don't think you should ever feel bad for writing radio type ear candy (all the h70s have ever tried to do) you're right about the bridge needing something more.

I like the lyrics a whole lot, actually. The idea that all your male friends pair up and your wife becomes your best friend is both mournful and hopeful at the same time, a great topic for a song. And I like the playful and familiar language you used to get it across, especially the third lines in the verses with the strings of synonyms. I would love to hear another take on this later, with a totally different feel, just because I think the song is really strong. Gabemcelwain 10:02, 13 April 2009 (PDT)
