oh, oh i had been waiting for you two to write and play together, and now it's happening, or at least it has happened, and that makes me beyond happy.
this song is lovely. and lively. i like how fast it is. i am dumbfounded by the "lalalala"s a "whoa-oh"s. i can't remember the last time i heard someone do that type of thing.
intital impressions after two listens:
- the bridge arpeggiation is amazing, especially the second half with speedy changes and inversions. it's gorgeous.
- love making "philadelphia" four syllables--and then five again at the end!
- diminisheds, minor fours (the glam chord!), yay.
- i really like the combination of acoustic and piano.
- i would love to hear a few overdubs (strings on the chorus?) on this some day. the guitar part makes me think of violins and cellos there. how often does that happen?
- i fantasize about percussion of various types.
i need to listen to this a million more times. thank you, thank you. if you're really making an EP every month this year, it's going to be the best year of my life.
also:
- i really like how the last chorus frames Philadelphia as a place in the universe, one that is uniquely worthy of approval (tonight, at least). A satisfying application of scale.

Thanks for the comments! Deirdre and I wrote this together.
This song was a surprise, at least to me. I've been stalled out in my songwriting since I moved. I think I needed to commit myself to the city in song before moving forward. Not something I expected to write, but I feel much better now that we wrote it. Sort of like someone forgiving you in a dream.
